Protecting Our Future by Reclaiming Our Past®
Simply removing carpet from the waste stream is not enough. It must be closed-loop recycled –
which turns it back into new carpet – instead of incinerated, used for energy recovery, or
otherwise improperly disposed of.
Tandus has developed a number of programs to reclaim carpet materials from the marketplace.

Even though the experts said it couldn't be done, we did it anyway and almost 15 years ago created the
carpet industry's first closed-loop recycling program. We begin by taking back used vinyl-backed carpet,
including that of our competitors, which would otherwise have been headed for the landfill. Then we run it
through our patented process that recycles this waste material into a new 100% recycled content carpet
backing called ER3®.
Since 1994, we've not only kept 130,000,000 pounds of carpet out of landfills, but we have also avoided
using an equivalent amount of raw materials. This multiplier effect is exactly what makes closed-loop
recycling such a critical part of the sustainability effort.
Retrieve
We recover our samples and product folders as well as competitive vinyl sample materials from the
marketplace after they have served their useful purpose. The Retrieve program extends the life of the
materials by reusing and recycling them in order to keep them out of the waste stream.

Floore
We collect any vinyl-backed carpet, made by any manufacturer and closed-loop
recycle it into new carpet. We call it "Mining Buildings for Resources Instead of the Earth®." No landfills,
no incineration, no waste-to-energy -- guaranteed. Just old carpet back into new high-performance carpet -
over and over again.
