Supports a Healthy Environment

The average person spends about 90% of his/her time indoors. The materials chosen in the design process for our indoor environments have an impact on our health considering we spend so much time indoors.

Hybrid resilient sheet flooring with heterogeneous construction of a nylon wear layer and closed cell cushion bonded together through heat and pressure creating a unique construction that supports a healthier indoor environment.

VOCs

Figure B

For floorcoverings, Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCS) are most often associated with wet glues used during installation and the ongoing maintenance procedures (stripping and burnishing) required for VCT.

The Powerbond Answer.
The Revolutionary System (RS) further changed the industry in 1988 as the first peel & stick installation method for Powerbond Cushion replacing the need for wet glues and virtually eliminating VOCs. Powerbond Cushion with RS has 20 times less Total Volatile Organic Compound (TVOC) emissions that carpet alone.

Powerbond’s simple maintenance procedures minimize the use of cleaning chemicals only requiring routine vacuum, spot cleaning and occasional wet extraction are the only requirements for Powerbond cleaning, which also improves the quality of indoor air.

*Note: Powerbond, like all Tandus Flooring products, do not contain anti-microbials (pesticides) for better indoor health.

Figure D

Powerbond’s closed cell cushion helps to reduce intrusive noise by reducing the impact of footfalls and other objects on the floor. More importantly, Powerbond’s reduces noise from our other sources by its acoustical properties known as Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC).

Powerbond has an NRC of .20—Nearly twice the acoustical performance of conventional modular carpet without cushion and 10 times better acoustical performance vs. VCT.

Powerbond closed cell cushion construction offers thermal attributes that indicate the floor temperature is within 1 degree of the ambient temperature of the room. While other floorcoverings (VCT and broadloom) have no thermal value to insulate from the concrete slab. These floors are 10% colder.

Safety

No matter what type of facility, all must be more proactive in promoting safety. To reduce slips and falls, surfaces with the appropriate Coefficient of Friction (COE) should be selected. The COE of Powerbond combined its closed cell cushion construction, helps to reduce slips and falls.

Ergonomics

Powerbond’s closed cell cushion construction can contribute to better ergonomic conditions. Researchers have concluded the soft-surface floorcovering that combine low, dense pile with a firm cushion construction provided the lowest muscle response—less muscle fatigue) of all samples taken. The underfoot comfort provided by Powerbond can be a welcome relief to backs and joints.
